Maidford River Watershed

Assistance is being provided to the Town of Middletown and Aquidneck Land Trust with planning and preliminary design for nature-based solutions to restore the hydrology and water quality of the Maidford River. An important feature of this project is to provide effective communication and community engagement strategies to build project support, and identifying locally appropriate funding and revenue to support implementation. The Network pilot project complements ongoing work to mitigate stormwater inputs from agriculture and local roads,  by advancing the recommendations of local conservation plans to increase the river’s flood storage capacity by creating meanders and floodplain storage, replacing culverts that restrict flow, and restoring riparian buffer along the length of the river.
