Join the SNEP Network to learn about two stormwater projects funded by the SNEP Watershed Implementation Grants (SWIG). SWIG is an annual grants program managed by Restore America’s Estuaries that funds local priorities that support clean water, healthy ecosystems, and sustainable communities. By joining this webinar, you will hear from two community grant recipients who have implemented their projects:
Project #1: Piloting an ‘Embankment Filter’ as a Stormwater Treatment Practice on Steep Slopes with Site Constraints
Description:
Stormwater treatment to improve water quality throughout New England is a challenging prospect due to heavily developed areas. Waterfront property containing steep slopes with limited space is often overlooked for best management practice (BMP) control measures, even more so on sites with constraints such as retaining walls or unsuitable soils. This project design demonstrates a retrofit solution to treat a large urban parking lot with constrained conditions. This grant was awarded to the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation and implemented on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, MA.

Project #2
Pocasset Water Quality Coalition Hen Cove Rain Garden (PWQC) Project
The Pocasset Water Quality Coalition (PWQC) has built 3 rain gardens around Hen Cove to help mitigate storm water runoff. The project educated property owners to the causes and effects of stormwater runoff in Hen Cove and Wings Neck Inlet and engaged their community in action both at the community level with rain gardens on town property and at the residential level. Businesses, neighborhood volunteers and students from Upper Cape Tech Regional High School all helped build the rain gardens. One year later, the rain gardens are functioning and looking beautiful.
